Tourism growth in the Dominican Republic
Dominican tourism is one of the sectors that contributes the most to the Dominican Republic’s economy. The tourism sector has successfully recovered, breaking records in tourist arrival numbers and positioning itself as one of the main destinations in the Caribbean.
From January to September 2022, the Dominican Republic received 5,334,291 tourists. Compared to 2018 and 2019, we have considerably increased the number of visitors to the country.
Therefore, it is projected to have the best year in the history of Dominican tourism in terms of visitor arrivals.
According to data from the Ministry of Tourism, 807,489 cruise passengers disembarked in the DR in the first nine months of the year (the figure includes cabotage, that is, passengers going from one Dominican port to another).
The Port of Amber Cove surpassed passenger arrivals in October with 49,342; followed by Taíno Bay with 26,100 in 11 operations; La Romana Port with 10,589 and Sans Soucí Port, 2,147, in 13 tourist boat operations.
To meet the goal of 7 million visitors by the end of the year, only 1,173,922 tourists are missing, since between January and October almost six million have arrived by air to the Dominican Republic; exactly, five million 826 thousand 78.
